General English 5

Course description

The course is aimed at those who have learnt English at the low Intermediate level, those who have got at least TOEIC 400 and those who pass CFL Placement test for GE5 courses.

Course outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, learners should improve TOEIC score to 450.

Learners will also be provided with:

  • Vocabulary relevant to the topics of: City descriptions, British English and American English, phrase verbs, job description, culture, politics and current affairs, collocations, personal characteristics;
  • Complex English grammar: Time clause, conditionals, expressing probability; present tenses, past tenses, future tenses, reporting spoken language;
  • Skills focus: Comprehend documents, identify main ideas, supporting ideas and retain detailed information effectively. Construct essays. Take notes from written and oral texts in preparation for discussions and/or presentations. Express opinion supporting or refuting a point. Use strategies to retain content words and key information from oral communication.
